Lucia Riverbend Volunteer Fire Department started back in 1956 in a small building on Old Hwy 16. The fire department had built a new building in 1988 a short distance down the road from our original location. This building has allowed us to expand with more volunteers and additional apparatus. The fire department has 21 active volunteers, both certified Firefighter and certified EMT and a hand full of certified Public Safety Divers, 9 member’s board of directors. Our area is mostly rural with a large portion of Mountain Island Lake, Duke Energy Coal Fire Power Plant facility and a portion of Hwy 16. We have remodeled the original building to have a total of six bays to accommodate additional apparatus and we are still growing. Currently our most recent addition is a 105’ Ladder. Our arsenal of apparatus is as followed.1 Engine, 1 Tanker, 2 Brush Trucks, 1 Squad, 1 Quick Response Vehicle, 1 Rescue Boat, 1 Air Trailer. More information can be found on our Apparatus page. Two years ago Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department started a Dive Team to meet the needs of our community. Currently we are the only public safety divers in the county. Our Fire Department continues to grow strong with the endless dedication and willing to help others. On February 18th 2006 we were proud to announce 50 years of service to our community through professionalism, dedication, integrity and training. |
